(Closed)Day #2 Giveaway & Review : "Morning Sunshine!" by Robin Meade

*Giveaway Has Ended*

I love this book! I was not able to put it down once I started it. It is packed with great advice and really makes you think about life in a different way. I could relate to this author in many ways and was intrigued to read the ways she solved her real life issues and her attitude on life.

Through the difficult situations in her life that brought her great anxiety, she decided she needed a change. She brings to light many new views on life and how to deal with what life throws at you. I love the positive messages she brings, and the hope of finding some peace of mind in life.

She is smart and witty, and there were many parts in this book that were laugh out loud hilarious! I found her messages to be inspiring and full of knowledge. This is a book that is a keeper and that I will be glad to have in my library. It is a book that I feel could be used as a reference guide and I will be re-reading it over and over to reestablish the methods of balance and learning to look at things differently.

Review:Skidders

As an alternative to sandles in the summer, try out Skidders in the winter. When my 18 month old goes outside to play in the summer we also had a pair of sandles by the door we could slip on easily so she can play outside.

Now that the cold weather is here sandles do not make the cut for easy slip ons. When I heard about Skidders I delighted that they can be used both indoors and out, and they easily slip on without having to take time to tie their shoes.

These shoes also let the feet breathe, unlike other shoes that may leave your childs feet sweaty(not so pleasant) . The outersoles of the shoes are made out of rubber and provide great stability for the toddlers who are just learning how to maintain their balance.

Sometimes socks are too slippery when walking across the bare floor, your problem is now solved with Skidders because of the outerinsoles that are rubbery and provide traction on the bottom of the shoes.

Skidders come in a variety of different styles and colors. They have everything from character themed shoes to polka dots and camoflauge. They are fun and whimsical designs and will be a delight for your toddler to wear.

To purchase a pair of these terrific shoes please visit the Skidders website

Review & Giveaway: Four Pretty Please Press Books(closed)

*Contest Is Closed*
Looking for something new and fun for your kids to read? Pretty Please Press has four books that are great for the younger readers. Founded in 2001 by author Laura Aimee Garn, Pretty Please Press publishes books that have important messages for young children. I had a chance to review these books and share them with my children. My 8 year old found the books to be interesting and easy to read. Here are the four books that I received :

Bella Basset Ballerina by Laura Aimee Garn

A story about perseverance and dedicating ones self to pursue their dreams. Bella Basset wants to become a ballerina, however in this story only Borzois are dancers. It is fun to read and discover how Bella overcomes her obstacles in this great story for tots.

The Scritchy Little Twitchell Sisters by Laura Aimee Garn

In this book the Twitchell sisters argue about everything and make their household a very unpleasant place to be. After a Vaudville Producer comes around and "discovers" the Twitchell sisters, they make a career out of their fighting and arguing which causes them to appreciate each other more and look at their causes for arguing with humor.

Kick Block Punch by Jacquie Hann
A story about a boy very anxious to receive his black belt in karate. He does not realize all of the steps he will need to take before he can earn his black belt. With the help of karate teacher he learns the skills to be patient and practices hard so he can overcome his challenges.

Pynx by Jeffrey Greene

Pynx is a story about a learning to accept differences and learning to communicate better with others. As Pynx settles into a new neighborhood, her neighbors find her too noisey and become very upset with her. Pynx then has many children which greatly disturbs the rest of her neighbors. My children enjoyed this story very much and couldn't wait to find out how Pynx solves her problems with her neighbors.

There is a great deal going on for those who would like to purchase these books You can receive 20% off the list price, or "buy 3 books get 1 free" if you purchase these books through prettypleasepress.com

Review: Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer

I had the opportunity to review "Eating Animals" by Jonathan Safran Foer. I was very interested in reading this book because I am mostly vegetarian. I still have the occasional chicken or turkey when I go out to eat, but because my husband is vegetarian I have also chosen that lifestyle in the home.

Just looking at the title cover of this book with it's furry letters stating it's title "Eating Animals", made the thought of actually eating a furry animal seem very unappetizing. This book is not necessarily about being a vegetarian, but about how cruel and disrespectful we can be to animals. I felt as reading this book that even if meat is the main part of your meal, the animal does not have to live in such unreasonable conditions.

What really got my attention was the comparison between our beloved canines and other animals such as pigs that have just as much intellectual capacity as do our furry fun loving dogs.

He asked questions like why is it that we have our dogs as such a vital part of our lives, living with us, sleeping with us, traveling with us. Yet, we so disregard pigs and cows and other main sources meat. Meanwhile, other countries such as the Philippines have dog as one of their main staples of food.

This book really got me to thinking, and I was drawn into his explanations which were very well researched. Also, the stories of his grandmother who was such a big part of his life, were amazingly rich with details and I felt that I never lost my interests with the topics being discussed.

I highly recommend this book for anyone that has an interest in learning more about the treatment of the animals that we eat.

Please click here to purchase this book. "Eating Animals", by Jonathan Safran Foer

This review was written for Hachette Book Group, who supplied me with the book to review. Other than a copy of the book, no compensation was received for this post.

Review & Giveaway: Brandi Carlile - "Give Up The Ghost" Album (Closed)

*GIVEAWAY HAS ENDED*

I have had a wonderful opportunity to review Brandi Carlile new cd "Give Up The Ghost". This was my first time hearing Brandi Carlile and I must say I amazed that I have never heard her music before. She has an amazing talent, and her music is very thought provoking.

"To give up the ghost is not just to die since we do it a handful of times throughout our lives. It's a sort of leaving yourself behind," she explains. "Or what you knew yourself to be so that you can grow and transcend love or youth. Sometimes both."

During the recording of this album Brandi got the chance to work with great artist like Elton John and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, both contributed to her album.

This album was a bit of change from her previous 2 albums as it works on more emotional and raw topics. I really enjoyed the lyrics of this album and I found one of those albums you could listen to over and over.

She really does have a Patsy Cline type of voice and her music reminds me a bit of some of the old classic country songs with an up to date vibe. This is a great music choice for those who have been waiting for something a little different but familiar to come along.

Book Review: The Power of Respect by Deborah Norville

I received a new book from Thomas Nelson Book Review Bloggers, "The Power of Respect" by Deborah Norville. My first reaction before even opening the book was one of curiousity. My thoughts of respect were more related to being kind and generous to others. However, after reading a bit more I realized their is tremendous power behind respect. You do benefit from respecting others and respecting yourself. The respect that you give out can and will come back ten fold.

As I continued to read I found my curiousity was quenched and I discovered and learned the secrets of respect. The power of respect does not only apply to those in the business world, but also to those at home and at school. Deborah Norville introduces ideas and thoughts about respect by relaying real stories and events that help us take a close look at how respect can help us in our daily lives.

As mentioned in her book, many people feel that we do not respect each other as well as people use to in the past. Each generation seems to let respect slip further and further throught the cracks. She mentions that respect is something that must be taught in the home, we must respect our children and by being an example by the way we live, they will in turn learn this powerful tool of respect. By passing on this simple yet highly effective principle of respect we will hopefully repair this lack of respect that has been growing in our society.
