Do you tend to give gift cards to friends and family? Have you ever added a special touch to make them a bit more creative by pairing them with other items?  For example, how about giving an e-gift card + let’s say, an ice cream sundae?  With First Data, this is possible!

The First DataSM eGift SocialSM application is a cool new way to send your friends real gifts from their favorite stores. In just a few easy steps you can send a gift and your friend will be notified in real time, either on Facebook or by e-mail.  It's a fun, fast way to send real gifts to your friends even if your relationship is largely virtual or separated by miles.  Through Facebook, life happens in real-time, regardless of distance, and now you can respond to your friend's updates, successes, or just say hello with real-time gifts.

Right now they have 9 different online stores you can choose from to send a gift, with more stores soon to be added.  

One of my personal favorites on the list is for Cold Stone Creamery.  You could choose to give a “Like It Signature Creation” for $5.25.  Then you choose one of your Facebook friends as the recipient, and they will get notified either through Facebook or via e-mail that they got a gift from you.  Once you register or sign up as a guest and pay with a credit card, then a message will be sent to your friend either via Facebook or e-mail .  They will receive a code that they can redeem at participating stores or online depending upon the merchant.

A friend of mine just had a baby.  Wouldn’t it be a fun surprise for me to say on her Facebook page “Congrats Mary on your new bundle of joy!  After all that hard work during labor, go get yourself some ice cream ok?  While you are at it, go get some more diapers at K-mart too!  Can’t wait to see pics!!!” Then there would be codes for her to redeem at Cold Stone Creamery and K-mart.  That would be so much fun and so easy!

I’m thinking this Facebook app will take off – get ready to give/get fun new gifts while facebooking!
