Top 3 Ways to Relieve Commuting or Soccer Mom Stress

For many years, I worked outside the home and dealt with the craziness of the commuting population. By the time I ended up at work or at home at the end of the day, I usually had a headache and my shoulders were a knotted mess from the stress of commuting. Nowadays, my commute consists of getting out of bed and heading to my home office, and transporting children back and forth to school and activities. But even that kind of commuting can be very stressful, so I still need help relieving stress on the go. Here are some techniques that will make great use of your time sitting in traffic or the carpool lane.

  1. Progressive Muscle Relaxation is a widely used technique for stress reduction. Many poeple are surprised at how well it works. The idea behind it is simple, you evoke deep relaxation in the muscles by first tensing each muscle for a count of 10 and then relaxing. Traditionally, this is done in a specific sequence. But on the go, you'll have to alter this a little for your specific situation. For example, if you're sitting in the carpool lane, you can probably get through the whole sequence. But you won't if you're sitting at a stoplight. The most important ones to do for commuting are: hands, arms, shoulders and face.

  2. Deep Breathing helps immensely for both stress reduction and anger management ;) This is really easy to do in the car, and doesn't require you to be stopped. Simply breath in deeply for the count of 8 and out for the count of 4. To make sure you're breathing deeply, you're stomach should be moving, not just your chest. The best thing to do is practice it at home in a sitting position a few times so that it becomes second nature. That way, you're not thinking about it while you're in the car, you're just "doing".

  3. Classical Music soothes the soul. Don't like Classical? Then try Lite music, or find a spa or relaxation CD at your favorite music store. It's amazing how much stress can flow right out of you with the right kind of music. I know what you're thinking, "But I like my good old rock, rap, _______ (insert your favorite genre here)". Typically, most music on regular pop stations increases the stress level. It gets you pumped, wanting to rock out, etc, and a lot of it is also depressing. If you're not already stressed, then listen to whatever you like. But if you're stressed, pop in that relaxation CD long enough to bring your stress level down a notch.

So whether you're waging war on the road back and forth to work, or sitting in the minivan with screaming children, try these techniques along the way. Just PLEASE be safe and have a stress-free day!

Review: Hard Candy Cosmetics

By Brooke Miller

I recently had the exciting opportunity to review three Hard Candy Cosmetics products. Hard Candy is known for its great quality products, and their rocker-chic packaging. These products were so fun to try!

I first tried the Hard Candy Baked Blush in 'living doll'. I love the subtle shimmer in this blush. For work or a quick lunch date, apply dry for a soft and delicate look. For a night out with the girls, use wet for an intense and dramatic color.

Next, I tried the Animal Print Eye Tattoo Kit. The Eye Tattoo Kit contains peel-off eye shadows that are 100% hypo-allergenic, long wearing, and crease-proof. Each box contains 3 pairs of eye shadow appliqués, one jar of setting powder, and one powder application brush. This is one of the greatest inventions in makeup. We all know how long it can take to get your eyeshadow on perfectly from lid to eyebrow. This takes all of the time out of getting a perfect look. The animal print pattern was a little too wild for my lifestyle, but I would definitely buy the less dramatic colors.

Finally, I tried the Mouthing Off Sheer Lip Shine in 'heart breaker'. This is my new go-to lip color, and I use it every day. The color is beautiful - a purplish pink shade. This gloss gives lips glistening, sheer color with maximum shine.

Hard Candy products are sold exclusively in Walmart stores and at walmart.com. The entire collection is super affordable and fabulous and has an average price of $6.00.

(Closed) Review & Giveaway: KT Tunstall "Tiger Suit" Album

*Giveaway Has Ended*

The Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum, Scottish-born singer-songwriter KT Tunstall has just released a new album called "Tiger Suit". "Tiger Suit" was released October 5th and her rollicking first single "Fade Like A Shadow" is already a Top 20 hit at radio.

You may remember KT from her other smashing hits "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree," "Suddenly I See," Other Side of the World" or "Hold On". I know I had the "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" playing in my head for months. My 5 year old son was just a baby when the song was popular on the radio and it was always one of his favorites. He would sing along with the "WooHoo" part everytime.

I was very happy to review KT Tunstall's new album "Tiger Suit" and have been enjoying listening to it for the past week. I love her voice that is so deep toned and rustic sounding.
The music of her new album is very easy to listen to and the music is catchy and fun to chill out to.

KT say of her new album “I really went out of my comfort zone and wandered off further than expected,” she says, “and it made me realise I can do anything. There are no rules, there are no constraints, it’s just about what you’ve got the balls to do.”

I love that she went all out on this album and the fresh vibe that it has given her album. You can preview KT Tunstall's new album and listen to her new songs after letting your friends about her new album via Twitter or Facebook.

You can catch KT Tunstall live in concert as she will be touring this fall (10/31 - 12/1). I will be going to her concert here in L.A. thanks to One2One network. I will definately let you know how the concert was by posting my review here after November 11th.

*Giveaway*
One winner will receive a KT Tunstall "Tiger Suit" Deluxe Editon Album ($19.98 Value)

CD Tracklisting (same as regular edition)

1. Uummannaq Song

2. Glamour Puss

3. Push That Knot Away

4. Difficulty

5. Fade Like A Shadow

6. Lost

7. Golden Frames

8. Come On, Get In

9. (Still A) Weirdo

10. Madame Trudeaux

11. The Entertainer

“How To Make A Tiger Suit” Synopsis
"How To Make A Tiger Suit" is a record of a record. An honest and revealing film about KT Tunstall's journey, both geographic and personal - to create her third album.
From Scotland to London; California to Berlin - director Rupert Style follows KT as she explores this exciting new terrain. Musical borders are crossed too - in KT's own words "Leftfield via Eddie Cochran".

The end result is a humorous and entertaining film - that mixes exclusive live performance, intimate studio footage and beautiful animation. We learn the origins of 'Tiger Suit' and its collaborators, witness some challenging footwear choices and even take in a short film about cowboys along the way.

"How To Make A Tiger Suit" is essentially a fly on the wall look at one of the greatest female artists of a generation and a rare insight into the world she inhabits.

Review: Alizé Halloween Cocktails

By Trish Deitemyer

Invite Alizé to your Monster Bash!

Who says Halloween’s just for kids? Why not gather your grown up friends for some ghoulish cocktails made with Alizé, the premier liqueur? Alizé Passion liqueurs are premium French vodka infused with exotic flavors from all over the globe. Alizé happily mixes with just about anything, from rum and tequila to soda and champagne, to make delicious, colorful cocktails that will have them howling at the moon.

You’re bound to have some Edwards and Bellas in the group; treat them to a Vampire Kiss Martini:

1 ½ ounces Alizé Red Passion

1 ounce Alizé Gold Passion

1 ounce premium vodka

Top with lemonade and serve in a Martini glass
____________________________________

Mix up a Mad Scientist Sangria for your friendly, neighborhood Dr. Jekyll

1 ounce Alizé Red Passion

1 ounce red wine

Chill Alizé and wine. Right before serving, add 1 ounce Q ginger ale. Serve in a wine glass and garnish with an orange slice.
______________________________________

Devil’s Punch is a little evil with a big punch!  All of your demons will love it.

2 ounces Alizé Gold

2 ounces Bacardi Limon

Splash of Canton Ginger liqueur

Splash of cranberry juice

Splash of lime juice

Splash of Ginger Ale
                                  ________________________________________

I’s cleverly named Passion and ‘Pagne is a great addition to any Halloween bash.  Just to be sure (insert evil laugh here), my husband and I gave it a try and we loved it!  Red Passion is delicious, but not cloyingly sweet.  Mixed with champagne and served in a flute, it becomes elegant.

3 ounces Alizé Red Passion

3 ounces (Tattinger) champagne

Serve chilled in a champagne glass.
Please drink responsibly!

You wouldn’t want your friends turning into hungry zombies, would you? Or worse, going after your candy stash? Whip up this little snack and they’ll be good little ghouls.

Vapur Anti-Bottle Review

By Cynthia Tom

Here’s your regular water bottle:

Now, meet the Anti-Bottle:

I was happy to receive a beautiful purple Vapur Anti-Bottle in my mailbox last week. As a student and avid frequenter of the gym, I try to keep myself hydrated throughout the day. I normally carry around at least 2 bottles of water with me, so I was excited to try out this anti-bottled water!

Now, what is an anti-bottle you may ask. Well, unlike regular plastic water bottles, the anti-bottle is flexible, foldable, and VERY portable! When full with water, it is able to stand upright like a normal water bottle (but is also so much more stylish!). After drinking all the water, it can be rolled or flattened, making it super easy to fit in my backpack, purse, or duffle bag! It even comes with a matching colored carabineer clip so that you can attach it to your backpack!

I usually frequent the gym quite often, and I decided to ditch my regular water bottle and take this little baby along with me for a test run. I liked how it has a sports bottle feel to it with its pull-top cap and squeezability. I actually got complimented and asked about my Anti-bottle by a couple of people! Now I can add more flare to my boring gym outfit with my water anti-bottle! (Seriously, who would have ever thought that your water could add flare to your outfit).

Not only is this Vapur Anti-bottle trendy and portable, it’s great for the environment and reusable! It is BPA-free and does not leave a chemical taste or smell to the water. You can even wash it in the dishwasher (top rack). The packaging I received my Vapur Anti-bottle in is recyclable and printed in soy ink! When they say they care about the environment, they really mean it in all aspects of their product!

The Vapur Anti-bottle is also freezer and microwave-safe. It is available in a wide assortment of colors – green, purple, blue, pink, smoke, and orange! It even has a writable text area on the front so that you can label it! Overall, I think this is a great product, and I honestly cannot find any flaws with it (except for the fact that I may be too lazy to wash it). I would gladly ditch my normal water bottle in favor of the Vapur Anti-bottle anyday!

Visit vapur.us to learn more about their products and learn interesting tidbits about how water bottles are detrimental to the environment! Vapur is available at numerous locations, including Target and Amazon.com. You can also buy it from the company directly for only $8.95!
